Cremation Garden Burial After Cremation: A Look At The Pros And Cons

Blog

Cremation gardens are final resting areas for those who choose to be cremated. If you plan to be cremated, it is a good idea to research your options. Here is a look at the pros and cons of cremation gardens.

Pro: Cremation garden plots tend to be less expensive than regular burial plots in a cemetery.

If you buy a plot in a cremation garden, it is not going to be as expensive as a large burial plot. An urn or small container of ashes is relatively small, so you will not require a lot of space and the burial plot will not be as expensive to obtain. If the cremation garden has an open scattering area, you may not be required to purchase anything except a small nameplate that will get incorporated into a monument to mark your final resting place.

Con: Cremation gardens are not as abundantly available as cemeteries.

Even though more people are being cremated now than ever before, the change in popularity is relatively recent (within the last few decades or so). Therefore, it is harder to find a cremation garden than it is to find a regular cemetery. Some cemeteries are starting to implement small sections that are used as cremation gardens, but not all of them.

Pro: You get a permanent resting place that is marked with your name.

If you like the idea of cremation but prefer a permanent resting place where all of your family members can visit, a cremation garden is a good choice. You get the same kind of permanent resting place as you would get in a cemetery.

Con: You may still have to purchase a small headstone.

If you are planning to keep costs low by choosing cremation, you may be a little put off by the fact that some cremation gardens will require that you buy a small headstone or grave marker if you want your cremains buried in an urn garden. Some of these resting places, however, have a scattering area for ashes, which will not require you to purchase a headstone.

Pro: Cremation gardens tend to be set up beautifully.

Stone pathways for pedestrians and visitors, soothing water fountains, gorgeous monuments—you will find a lot of this in a cremation garden. Much like some of the best cemeteries, cremation gardens are well-manicured, welcoming, and peaceful. However, many of these memorial places are even more picturesque and beautiful.
